It’s been rather longer than I anticipated, to get back into my craft room. I think March is the last time I was in here, for the making of cards, at any rate. Partly it is Tiny’s fault, partly it is M’s fault. I suppose some of it was my fault, in choosing to study some history as well.
Tiny, naturally, keeps me otherwise occupied. And, while I have been otherwise occupied, M has invaded.
I know! First it was because he wanted to work from home, now it’s because he wants space to paint his models, and someone ought to use the room, since I wasn’t (at the time)…The cheek of it!
And it’s taken us until the last few weeks to come to an arrangement, and to reorganise. Because neither of us is what you might call a tidy sort of worker, we each have our own dedicated desks, divided by storage. And we now have more storage, to, er, accommodate M’s few boxes. In practice, what this means is that my supplies are tidier and off the floor. For the moment, at any rate.
I’m still sorting through all my supplies – M hasn’t even begun with his! – but I am now at a point in the sorting where I can use my desk and create again. Such a lovely feeling. I’d forgotten how calming it is to rummage through the supplies to make a card.
Or to stitch a pattern. Just small ones for now – the map will continue to wait. Begin again with Mouseloft kits. I’ve started with this cute one of a mouse blackberrying, which I’ve had on my eBay watchlist for years and which I’ve only just got around to actually buying. How often do you “watch” things for ages before you either buy or decide against?
I’ve always liked the Mouseloft kits, since I first found them. One of a summer hedgehog is what got me back into cross-stitching, and I’ve completed quite a lot of them over the years. The blackberrying mouse took me a couple of hours, which is one of the things I like about Mouseloft. They aren’t long or difficult patterns, nor do they have lots of similar shades to separate. Unlike the map. Which is why that one’s on hold.
I’m still working my way back to crochet. I probably ought to finish the little cardigan I started before Tiny was born. And I think there was a waffle-stitch mat.
Of course, having had to halve my desk space is not ideal. Especially not when I have some sewing plans for cot quilts. Mind you, the desk wasn’t exactly ideal for the sewing machine before either. Probably, the answer is to become a tidier sort of crafter. Or find better small-storage solutions. Or both. To be fair, it’s not like I’m a prolific sewer.
However, having had to up-end the craft room for this reorganisation has been quite good for the soul. I haven’t found many things to send to a charity shop, it’s true, but I have rediscovered various craft kits I’d forgotten I had – like a candle-making kit. And a paint-by-numbers. Amazing the things which gravitate towards one’s craft room.
I am hoping that I will, finally, manage to craft enough to get back to writing more about crafting again. At least make enough cards to get back to sharing them again. Maybe not weekly, not just yet, but who knows. Let’s see how efficiently I can arrange my time while Tiny sleeps.
